The Climb To Eternal Sunshine, 2023
Monotype, Charcoal on Screen
29.7 cm x 42 cm

The print series “The Climb To Eternal Sunshine” utilizes monotype. The prints explore the effects of various water-soluble charcoal types and thicknesses. This experimentation revealed two main textures: bordered lines and filled lines, which became the focal point of the series.

I aim to explore the potentialities embedded within the medium; its nuances and intricacies. Based on the simplicity of different types of charcoal, I strive to create diverse textures, from delicate remains of prints to bold imprints. For me, the bordered lines convey space for imagination and where the eyes can rest, while filled lines exude energy and solidify shapes. These two contrasting textures guide me throughout.

I was curious to continue pushing the boundaries of monotype printing, seeking new avenues of conceptual expression.

The Climb To Eternal Sunshine — arriving at the juncture where the horizon embraces the land; but where exactly is that?

Two gazes.
Two roads.
Suspended on the threshold;
never fully acknowledging, submerging, or rising.
